iTunes Pepsi promotion

USA Today is running an article on the Pepsi add that will launch the plan of Pepsi and Apple to give away 100 million songs from the iTunes Music Store. I think the whole giveaway is a good thing that should help Apple alot and sell more iPods. I don’t like Pepsi though and don’t like the ad concept that this article claims they are going to use. What will these people do when the giveaway is over?

Starve the Beast

I’ve been reading some interesting articles on President Bush and current federal spending. The philosophy being promoted by some is to cut taxes in such a way that will force the government to eventually cut spending and become smaller. The idea is to starve the beast. More information can be found at Insults Unpunished.

I’m not sure what I think about it all at the moment but the idea is definitely interesting. There is also Starve the Beast: Join the Global Tax Revolt at Amazon but it is out of print.

Bush and Abortion

R. C. Sproul Jr. has written a good post titled No Children Left Behind on a large inconsistency of President Bush (and lots of “conservative” politicians) concerning abortion. If life begins at conception then all abortion is murder and we must remember that. While President Bush has done some good he is definitely not a President that Christians should think does only good or does only right.

Entebbe

I am in the midst of reading Entebbe: A Defining Moment in the War on Terrorism: The Jonathan Netanyahu Story. I grew up in a Baptist Church where the pastor subscribed to the Jerusalem post. I have heard him talk many times about Entebbe, the Six Day War, and all the other happenings of this century with Israel. I haven’t finished this book yet but am highly impressed so far. The leader of the raid on Entebbe was Jonathan Netanyahu brother of the author. From what my Baptist pastor has said may times and what I’ve read of this book so far, the Israelis are much more decisive in their responses to terrorists than we are. It seems though that the current Bush has learned from history and from Reagan and is doing better than others have. I would recommend this book if the doings of Israel in this century interest you at all.

State of the Union Tomorrow

For those who may not keep up on current events, don’t forget that the State of the Union Address will be given by President Bush at 9:00 PM tomorrow. It should be very intersting and informative. It will also probably help to define clearly the focus President Bush will have as he runs against the many Democrats in the election.

For some balanced reporting I would suggest Fox News. If you are already curious you can read some speculation concerning what the President may discuss.

Apple iLife 04

Just bought my copy of iLife today. It is really great that all of this including GarageBand is available for only $49.

I can attest to the fact that GarageBand does not do very well on a 400 MHz G3. It will play some instruments for a while but usually overloads and has to stop. It doesn’t crash or anything – just stops. This isn’t a problem though because it does work some and requires a 600 MHz G3.

iPhoto on the other hand is a much better story. It is noticably improved on my slow computer. I can very easily scroll through over 1,000 images and resize them on the fly.

I am really excited about all the cool stuff that Apple continues to produce.

More on Journey to Eden

I am still reading Journey to Eden. It is beginning to get more interesting. I like the science aspects but am not sure that I like the overall story and how the science is being explained. The main characters are Christian and are showing some support of six day creation. At the moment I am annoyed that the governments of China, Britain, the United States, and Russia are all depicted as evil and almost working together. The good guys are the “religious fundamentalists” which include Islam, Orthodox Jews, and Evangelical Christians. It’s almost as if those three groups are the conservatives who are fighting the secularists on the age of the earth. This makes those in Islam out to be good guys and the Christians while they witness to a chinaman never really witness to their friend Mohammed who is muslim. Seems pretty weak on a philosophical level.

The science claim is that everything is slowing down relative to an imaginary absolute. Earth days are shorter today than they were ten years ago. We can’t tell this because clocks go slower too. Biological time does not change though. This is why Abraham lived longer than people do today. His body and ours have the same time relative to the absolute while everything physical in the universe has slowed. Interesting idea, but I haven’t seen any proof yet.

I will continue to report as I read more.
