As was pointed out on 40 Bicycles, the inventor of the Ctrl-Alt-Delete key sequence is retiring from IBM after 28.5 years.
The best part in the article is what Bradley said when he and Bill Gates were both on a panel celebrating 20 years of the IBM PC. He said, “I may have invented [Ctrl-Alt-Delete], but Bill made it famous.”
Reminders like this are great for those who still think a PC is better than a Mac. Just remember that Bill Gates is quoted as saying, “If you can’t make it good, at least make it look good.”

The January 31 issue of World Magazine has a good article by Marvin Olasky called Stay the Course. While pointing out the many negatives of the Bush administration, Olasky point out that “we’re better off now than we were four years ago . . . or that we will be a year from now, if millions of Christian conservatives stay home in November.”
Not everything that Bush does is a good thing for our country. While his support of faith-based programs has helped, I believe his courage to appoint conservative judges despite the Democrats will do even more in the long run. Much of the negative of the last 50 years has hinged on court decisions. It is hopeful that a future conservative court can show that law is absolute and can help keep our country heading in the direction intended by the founders.

Something to rejoice over in 2004 is the fact that a lot of the provisions of the so called “Brady Bill” are set to expire in 2004. Hopefully a Republican congress will demonstrate enough courage to not extend these provisions. The most annoying part to me personally, is the ban on "Large capacity ammunition feeding devices." When I grew up we would go outside on our farm and target practice with our Ruger 10/22. It’s a 22 and has probably rarely been used in a violent crime by a law abiding citizen. One of the greatest things with target practice is having a good 30 round magazine. This means you don’t have to reload continually. When the Brady Bill or one of its parts was passed Clinton outlawed all magazines that hold more than 10 rounds. The whole concept is stupid. What hardened criminal is using a 10/22 with a 30 round clip to kill people? While criminals use Assault Weapons that they get illegally, law abiding citizens like myself are prohibited from certain weapons because the left doesn’t like them.
It seems clear to me that the left doesn’t want law abiding conservatives to have any rights. It is also most clear that they do not want any Christians around. I’m sure the British would have been overjoyed in 1776 if the colonists did not have any guns. Please support the NRA and President Bush who is more likely to make the right decision about guns and other items that will allow us to stop our country’s massive move to the left.

Last year I purchased a copy of The Complete Guide to Middle-Earth. It is very helpful when you want to try to keep track of all the names of people and places in Tolkien’s works. This year I bought a copy of the daily calendar, A Guide To Middle-Earth 2004 Day-To-Day Calendar (you can still buy it, it’s not too late!). The calendar is great because it explains different things about Middle-Earth every day. I recommend that you get the calendar and the book if you haven’t already.
Looking at Amazon.com I realized that I should be able to link to the actual pages in the book corresponding to the word of the day. I don’t guarantee that I will do it every day but the word to learn today is Silmarilli, which you can read about at Amazon.com by clicking on the link.

Peter Leithart has posted his Exhortation for January 25. He has given excellent ecouragement from the Scriptures to those of us who may think that our position in life is not important enough. Take heart and be faithful in whatever work God has called you to now.

Jeff Meyers has an very interesting article called, "A Sabbath Conversation: How Old is the Earth?" at Theologia. The article basically points out the fact that even if men or the universe have an apeearence of an age greater than the amount of time since creation that God isn’t deceiving anyone. This is true because God may have made something with the appearance of age but at the same time told us how old it was. Adam appeared to be 30 or so but on the first day God would have told him, "I made you yesterday." Any observations concerning an "appearance of age" must take into account all of the facts in order to be faithful.
This would indicate truly that it doesn’t really matter what we find in science because God has already told us the truth. I believe though that there are still scientific questions that relate to the age of the universe that we may want to continue to pursue. Many people have pointed out that the light from stars millions of light years away is already reaching us. This isn’t necessarily a problem but sometimes we will see one of those stars go supernova. The question here that may still need answered has to do with that star that isn’t there anymore. Did God create a universe that appeared old and appeared to have things in it that were never really there?
My next question is not entirely parallel, but did Adam have any marks on his body from injuries that never happened? I realize the question may be entirely different because maybe he never had any injuries before the fall. Along that same line though did stars go supernova before the fall? Did entropy change after the fall?
I believe God at his word when he says that he created the universe in six normal days. The Bible is pretty clear that creation occurred sometime less than ten thousand years ago. I still think we may find explanations that show that true science and the Bible go hand in hand. Starlight and Time and the new fiction book that I have blogged on recently, Journey to Eden, are both decent attempts to give a legitimate explanation. Starlight reaching us from planets farther than ten thousand light years away does not bother me. I’m not even sure that being able to see a supernova that never occurred is a problem. I do believe that science needs to continually increase in understanding our world and universe. The scientists just need to make sure that they are submitting to the God that made us as they study and come up with new theories.
